Recording Studio: Music studio overview

The Charms music studio provides a great option for students to record their musical assignments. It is also a good option for teachers who would like to create accompaniments for students to use as part of their assignments.

NOTE: For students to use the music studio recording feature from the Students/Parents/Members portal, it must be enabled in the Teachers/Helpers Portal. On the  Main Sections menu, click  Settings and under the  Adult/Student Preferences section, select  Use Recording Studio.

In this article we provide an overview of each tab in the music studio:

  • Record
  • Assignments
  • Accompaniments
  • Upload MP3/MP4

Record

The Record tab in the music studio is where you record your music. Use the following buttons as you work in the music studio:

Notice that you can change the playback volume, microphone level, and the tempo by moving the slider left or right.

When you create a recording, Charms gives you 5 opportunities or "takes" to get it just right. If you reach the fifth take and do not like any of the recordings, click Clear All and receive  another 5 takes.

As you create a take, you can click the white arrow within the take button to play the recording. If you like the take, click Save. The Save button shows you which take you are saving. In the following example, we are saving Take 3.

When you save the the take, Charms uploads the recording to the Uploaded Recordings section of the music studio.

Uploaded Recordings

When you save a recording, it is available in the Uploaded Recordings section. This section shows the date the recording was uploaded (saved), the status, which tells you if it has been reviewed (red for no, green for yes), and the grade and teacher comments.

TIP: You can listen to an uploaded recording by clicking

and downloading it. Or, if you prefer, right-click on the recording and select the option to open the link in a new tab or new window.  This allows you to listen without downloading the recording.

You can delete recordings that are not reviewed by clicking
